GAME REPORT

Montenegro Take Control Late On

10. Jelena Dubljevic (Montenegro)
Jelena Dubljevic was an important scorer for Montenegro

Montenegro leap-frogged Ukraine and took the top spot in Group D in the EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round with a 76-70 success in Cetinje on Wednesday.

The group's top two met, knowing their place in the next summer's competition was secure.

But that didn't take away from the competitiveness of these teams as they played out a tight affair that swung one way then the other, before Montenegro took the win and the head-to-head tie-breaker.

Ukraine appeared to have seized the initiative when they took a 32-21 after Viktoria Mircheva's second-quarter jump shot.

But Montenegro hit back immediately with an 8-0 counter before the teams traded baskets.

Jovana Pasic then hit a three-pointer that sparked the decisive 7-0 Montenegro run in the final four minutes.

Montenegro also had Iva Perovanovic and Jelena Dubljevic to thank as they poured in 25 and 23 points respectively. Alina Iagupova and Mircheva each had 20 points for Ukraine.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Montenegro vs. Ukraine

Momir Milatovic, Montenegro Head Coach
"I said before that the girls will do their best and it happened, so I'm very happy after the victory that has brought us the first place in the group. We were at our limits in terms of strength, because we have a small number of players in the rotation, but the young Pasic and Rakovic showed that the they are the future of Montenegrin basketball. We still have the possibility for improvement and I expect us to be even better at the EuroBasket because there will be more time to prepare and we will have more players in the rotation."

Jovana Pasic, Montenegro
"I am very happy that I got the opportunity to play and to have won first place in the group. I want to congratulate all my team-mates and to thank them because sincethe first day of preparation had a great relationship with us, the younger players, and were a great help to us. We have shown that we are a great team and we have quality and I hope we will show that again at the European Championship."

Vadim Czeczuro, Ukraine Head
"Congratulations to Montenegro. I knew that Montenegro have a very experienced team and deserved to win. We expected a tough game in which the winner will be decided in the last minutes. They fought and turned the game on this head after we reached a double-digit advantage. Then the lead changed a few times, and in the end the greater experience of Montenegro was the factor [that brought them victory] combined with the fact that we missed a few of our three point shots. Our desire was to lose with a difference of less than four points in order to be first in the group, but we did not succeed."

Ievgeniia Spitkovska, Ukraine
"We really wanted to win this game, we really wanted to take first place in the group. We lacked a little bit in order to achieve our goal, but we are very happy to have the honour of being in the top 20 teams in Europe."
