Maja Erkic - Slovenia
Maja Erkic was part of Slovenia's well-balanced offence

Slovenia closed their EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round campaign with a comfortable 66-57 win over Luxembourg in Oberanven on Wednesday.

Neither team will advance to the finals next summer but Slovenia took third spot in Group A and ensured Luxembourg finish without a win, thanks to a balanced offensive display which saw three players finish with 12 points.

One of those players, Maja Erkic, hit the jumper that gave the visitors an early 14-6 advantage and allowed them to take the upper hand.

Luxembourg never led but kept pace, thanks to a game-high 15 points from Lynn Schreiner, and were within three points midway through the third period.

But a series of mini-runs, punctuated by Luxembourg turnovers that were punished on the fastbreak, proved to be the difference late on as Slovenia were able to open up their biggest lead, 64-50, in the final period.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Luxembourg vs. Slovenia

Tomo Oresnik, Slovenia Head Coach
"It was a tough last game for us but we were the better team and deserved to win. It is nice to finish this Qualification Round with a win."

Katja Kotnik, Slovenia
"We had the better start. Their game was very aggressive while our rebounding was weak. We played well in the first quarter but then we let it go and they got closer."

Hermann Paar, Luxembourg Head Coach
"At the end of this campaign we saw a fighting Luxembourg team. We are now looking forward to the next step next year in a new campaign."

Nadia Mossong, Luxembourg
"The result of the game tonight is okay for us but it could have been better. We had too many turnovers. Nevertheless it was our best game this year and we took the maximum out of our team."
