GAME REPORT

Slick Slovakia Cruise Past Luxembourg

8. Zofia Hruscáková (Slovak Republic)
Zofia Hruscakova scored a game-high 14 points for Slovakia

Slovakia enhanced their prospects of posting a successful EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round after opening up with an offensive barrage en-route to a comfortable 82-41 win against Luxembourg.

Head coach Maros Kovacik watched intently as his team cut loose from the first second and accumulated a huge 35 points in the opening quarter as they waltzed into a 20-point lead after ten minutes.

However there was still some room for defensive improvements and Slovakia duly delivered by only allowing Luxembourg to score six points during the second and another six points during the third period.

With just 12 points in 20 minutes, the visitors were unable to form any kind of consistent resistance other than a late revival and Slovakia strode to victory.

It was unsurprising that the winners eventually finished with four players who had double-figure scoring returns, including the legendary Zuzana Zirkova who enjoyed a perfect night by not missing a single shot on her way to 11 points.

Rising star Zsofia Hruscakova enhanced her reputation with an excellent top score of 14 points from seven-of-nine floor shooting and another talented teenager, Lisa Jablonowski added 12 for Luxembourg.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Slovakia vs. Luxembourg

Hermann Paar, Luxembourg Head Coach
"We saw the big difference between basketball in Slovakia and in Luxembourg. The home player did a great job in the first half. After the break we changed our defence, but we had big problems on offence until the end of the game."

Lynn Schreiner, Luxembourg
"We did not have a good start. The home team had a lot of fast breaks and they scored a lot from outside. For us it was really hard to find a way to score."

Maros Kovacik, Slovakia Head Coach
"Our 35 points in the first quarter decided the game. The play of my team in the first half was great, but we did not hold the focus during the whole game. In the second half our players started to think about the next game against Poland."

Zofia Hruscakova, Slovakia
"We started the game very well. Our play was very concentrated, we focused on every detail and we made a deciding point difference until half-time."
