GAME REPORT

Dubljevic At The Double For Montenegro

10. Jelena Dubljevic (Montenegro)
Jelena Dubljevic inflicted a lot of damage on the visiting German team
A double-double by Jelena Dubljevic and some strong second-half defence paved the way for Montenegro to claim a 63-52 home court victory against Germany in the EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round.

The home side had to work hard to take the win against a resilient German side who didn't lie down and were only outfoxed by some intense defensive work.

While Montenegro were generally on top throughout, the visiting team managed to stand toe-to-toe with the Group D favourites for long spells.

Indeed just before the midway point of the contest, a jump-shot by Romy Bar levelled matters at 36-36, with only a couple of free-throws from Iva Perovanovic giving the hosts a slender lead at the break.

It was defence which changed the game as Montenegro made the necessary adjustments for when they returned to the floor.

They tightened things up significantly and Germany eventually gave up some 24 turnovers. Although while Eshaya Murphy could claim credit for five steals, there were a dozen unforced errors which proved costly.

Additionally, Germany could only muster 15 points in the entire second-half and combined with Jelena Dubljevic causing trouble inside with 14 points and eleven rebounds, Montenegro were able to slide to the win.

Anna Breitreiner led the way for Germany with 15 points.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Montenegro vs. Germany

Momir Milatovic, Montenegro Head Coach
"Germany is a very quality opponent and we knew it would be very difficult. We started nervously as was expected, as this was our first match in the competition. At half-time we agreed that we must play better in defense, which is our main asset and in the second half we played much better. And that finally decided the winner."

Jelena Skerovic, Montenegro
"Germany have confirmed their quality and they were a serious opponent throughout the match. By the middle of the last quarter the game was balanced, but the details in the end were in our favour and we got a deserved win."

Alexandra Maerz, Germany Head Coach
"We played great in the first half, but we were much poorer on offence in the second part. We made a lot of mistakes and those eventually decided the winner. Montenegro has played very well and I would like to congratulate them."

Anne Breitreiner, Germany
"I think we played very well in the first half. But we made a lot of mistakes and had a lot of turnovers. The qualifiers are long and there is still plenty to play for."
