GAME REPORT

Slovakia See Off Gutsy Slovenia

While all the talk ahead of the EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round was how Slovakia had turned to Kristi Toliver, they didn't need their naturalised star to rack up a fine 74-58 win against Slovenia.
10. Zuzana Brezániova (Slovak Republic)
Zuzana Brezániova's play finished off any Slovenian hopes for a comeback

A collective effort from his players witnessed Maros Kovacik take a debut win at the helm of his nation - a strong third quarter proving to be the breaking point in the encounter.

A perfect shooting night for Katarina Tetemondova was also a major headline as she claimed a team-high 13 points.

There was no daylight between the two teams during the early exchanges and while Slovakians moved 32-26 ahead approaching half-time, Slovenia scored six straight points as Maja Erkic locked the game up early in the third.

But, the wheels would soon come crashing off for the visitors as the home team made the pivotal burst which decided the outcome.

They registered a 17-4 run which was rounded off by a triple from Dominika Baburova.

And, rather than responding, things got worse for Slovenia in the final quarter when Zuzana Brezianova made it 59-40 and killed off any hopes of a fight-back.

Teja Oblak finished with 14 points in defeat.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Slovak Republic vs. Slovenia

Tomo Oresnik, Slovenia Head Coach
"The Slovak team was better, especially in the second half. I saw the biggest difference in the third quarter, when my team did not score for six minutes. We made a lot of mistakes on defence and we came closer, then Tetemondova made some important three-point shots."

Maros Kovacik, Slovakia Head Coach
"It was a very interesting, but also very nervous game. At the start we had problems with the rebounding on defence, which gave our opponent too many second chances. After the break we adjusted our play and that helped us in the third quarter to decide the game."

Teja Oblak, Slovenia
"I think we let them score too many easy points, because our defence did not work well. They scored more than 40 points in the second half. At the start we lost our concentration for a while and Slovakian players scored from easy lay-ups and took the decisive lead."

Katarina Tetemondova, Slovakia
"We were little bit nervous in the first half and therefore we made too many mistakes. We had a great start in the third quarter, we were stronger on defence, we had some quick, succesful actions and  the points from those boosted our confidence."
