|Francesca Dotto poured in 20 points for Italy|
Young gun Francesca Dotta propelled Italy to a 65-52 win against Portugal in Group C of the EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round as the Azzurre avenged a defeat earlier in the campaign.
The victory for Roberto Ricchini and his team was built around a powerful 25-5 run across the third and fourth quarter break which ripped the momentum out of Portuguese hands.
Having led 34-25 in the third quarter and having led for long periods of the contest, it had looked like the visitors were on course for an unlikely double.
But, with the irrepressible talent of Dotto to call upon, Italy were able to dig themselves out of a potential hole.
From those arrears of nine points which had made the scenario look decidedly gloomy, Italy found a new gear as Dotto firstly levelled the scores at 34-34 as the hosts racked up 11 points without reply.
That put them ahead and while Carla Nascimento started the final quarter with a three-pointer to put Portugal back ahead by a point, it was the last time they would have their noses in front.
Italy seized the initiative and continued their good work from the third quarter with a breathtaking 17-2 burst which took the game out of the reach of Portugal.
Dotto had a magnificent 20 points, three assists and three steals and was supported by Chiara Consolini who added a wonderful cameo of 11 points, six rebounds and four steals.
Sofia Da Silva had a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds for Portugal.
