GAME REPORT

Fleischer Puts Israel Into Semis

Jennifer Fleischer (Israel)
Jennifer Fleischer shined for Israel with a double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds in 21 minutes on the court

A sensational haul of 17 points and 17 rebounds by Jennifer Fleischer inspired Israel to both a 72-56 win against the F.Y.R. of Macedonia and a semi-final place in the EuroBasket Women 2015 1st Qualification Round.

The forward was on fire with the ball in her hands, making seven-of-ten from the field and also excelling on the glass to help her team seal top place in Group D.

The F.Y.R. of Macedonia fought hard for long spells and even held a 19-14 first period advantage.

But, despite a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds from naturalised Chrissy Givens, there wasn't enough scoring power to prevail - only Slavica Dimovska managing to also claim a double-figure score.

It was a crucial factor, as was a disastrous second period, when Israel took control of the game by outscoring the F.Y.R. of Macedonia 26-12 to swing the momentum firmly in their favour.

With Liron Cohen pulling the strings to superb effect for Israel and eventually finishing with seven assists, it ended up being a long night for the F.Y.R. of Macedonia who could barely buy a basket outside of Givens.

Despite momentarily threatening a comeback in the third quarter, it never materialised and Israel coasted to the win with a strong closing 10 minutes.

Shay Doron (16 points), Cohen (12 points) and Katia Levitsky (11 points) all scored in double figures for Israel to support the headline numbers of Fleischer.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes F.Y.R. of Macedonia vs. Israel

Israel Head Coach Eli Rabi:
"I'm pleased with the fact that we are in the next round. F.Y.R. of Macedonia made it tough for us today, took us out of our flow. But other than the first quarter, the game was in our control and I'm happy with this convincing victory."

Israel player Katia Levistky:
"We won the rebounds 44 - 31, I don't think that has ever happened in the past. It's fun to see this change. Jennifer is doing an incredible job, I hope she keeps it up in the next stage."

F.Y.R. of Macedonia Assistant Coach Emir Haskic:
"It is very important that our younger players see what strong basketball is like. For them this tournament is a learning experience. We tried to do the best we can; when we lost two players, we had a problem."

F.Y.R. of Macedonia player Chrissy Givens:
"We have a very young team; playing with six players is hard. We hung on for the first half, but didn't have enough power or experience on the bench."
