|Daniela Peteva was the impetus behind Bulgaria's win|
Bulgaria have used home court advantage to their benefit to record a 57-52 win over Slovenia to start their EuroBasket Women 2015 First Qualification Round campaign on a winning note.
In a topsy-turvy encounter that experienced nine lead changes, Bulgaria grabbed the lead for good in the final minute of the third quarter as Slovenia could do no more than stay close to their hosts throughout the final exchanges.
Bulgaria were making the most of the early exchanges, leading by as much as eight (26-18) midway through the second frame but with Eva Rupnik providing eight points in the run into the half, the lead was diced to two by the time the halftime hooter sounded.
Teja Oblak took over from Rupnik in the third period as the Slovenians appeared to have their hosts rattled. However, a critical timeout from Georgi Boshkov settled the Bulgarians, and when they returned to the court Daniela Peteva shouldered the responsibility of getting her team home, making her side's final two points of the third frame before providing eight of her team's 12 final quarter points.
Peteva finished the night with 12 points, the same as teammate Radostina Dimitrova. Leading the way with 18 and seven rebounds was Milena Tomova. Showing dominance under the basket with 13 boards was Stefka Miteva.
For Slovenia Oblak finished with 13 points.
On Saturday Bulgaria have a rest whilst Slovenia look to get off the mark when they take on Switzerland.
