GAME REPORT

Murphy Magic Inspires Montenegro

Eshaya Murphy (Montenegro)
Eshaya Murphy went 6-of-7 from two-point range on her way to 21 points

Days after beating Germany at home in the EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round, Montenegro claimed a 60-48 road victory against their Group D rivals thanks to some stellar work from Eshaya Murphy.

The guard enjoyed having the hot hand all night and completed an excellent evening of work by recording 21 points, to lead her team to a double against their opponents.

After making some adjustments from the first meeting, Germany kept pace having gone 12-7 in front off the back of a three-pointer from Margret Skuballa.

However once Montenegro drew level, they soon gained the upper hand with an 8-2 tear putting them 20-12 ahead.

It was still an eight-point margin at the break and during the third quarter Montenegro were able to keep Germany at bay, before eventually grinding their opponents down during the last ten minutes.

If Germany had dreams of a revival, they were more or less ended when Murphy extended the lead to 53-40 with three minutes left on the game clock.

Romy Bär had an impressive 18 points in defeat.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Germany vs. Montenegro

Alexandra Maerz, Germany Head Coach
"We did not shoot good enough tonight to win this game. And we did not show enough determination. I don´t know yet why we were so nervous but we have to be more confident. I still believe that we have a chance to qualify. We said before that we expect Montenegro to be the strongest team in our group. Now we have to establish new motivation for the next games."

Romy Bär, Germany
"We just shot 34 percent tonight. I think our defence was pretty good; we just gave up 60 points against a very strong opponent. We will continue fighting in the next games. Today we were not always concentrated. I hope that there will be more spectators on Sunday. We have to focus on us, we have to win, win, win now!"

Momir Milatovic, Montenegro Head Coach
"It was a tough game for us because Germany is a very good team with big quality. But we made some tactical changes which Germany could not resolve. We made it hard to score for the best German players Romy Bär and especially Anne Breitreiner. These changes decided the game."

Eshaya Murphy, Montenegro
"I am so happy that we won on the road. This is very important in our group. We knew that they will come out strong, they have great shooters. At half-time we were not very confident but in the second half we made it hard for them to score. They had to take contested shots, because our defence was much better than before. Now I am looking forward to the next games."
