GAME REPORT

Perfect Poland Lock Down Luxembourg

Malgorzata Misiuk (Poland)
Malgorzata Misiuk and her team beat Luxembourg

A second-half lockdown of Luxembourg facilitated a 66-45 success for Poland who still haven't missed a beat in Group A of the EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round.

With four wins from as many games, Jacek Winnicki and his players are now within touching distance of punching their ticket, although were made to work seriously hard against the group underdogs.

The visitors laboured to establish the kind of comfortable early cushion they had no doubt hoped for and indeed were left stunned when a basket from Magaly Meynadier put Luxembourg 19-17 ahead in the second quarter.

Even though Poland managed to respond by establishing a six point lead at the midway point of the game, they hit the locker rooms knowing that a defensive uplift was essential.

And, they delivered it by making the necessary adjustments required which shut down the home offence and allowed Poland to exert their influence.

Holding Luxembourg to a meagre 15 points in the entire second-half, Poland cruised to the win behind a shared 24 points from Malgorzata Misiuk and Justyna Zurowoska.

Ewelina Kobryn didn't suit up for the winning team and Cathy Schmit added 13 points for the losing side.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Luxembourg vs. Poland

Jacek Winnicki, Poland, Head Coach
"What counts for us is that we won the game. Luxembourg may be on the last spot, but they played good in the first half, we didn’t. Our second half defence was better and we were able to bring the game home. That is what is important."

Malgorzata Misiuk, Poland

"We slept a little bit in first half, Luxembourg hit their shots. In the second half we were better on defence and were able to win the game."

Hermann Paar, Luxembourg, Head Coach
"The team got better from game to game, today we really played decent and one can see the progress in these last 3 games. We have to build on this and go on getting better and more consequent on offence."

Lynn Schreiner, Luxembourg
"In the first half we hit our shots and played really well, but unfortunately, in the second half, as their defence got better, we lost our confidence and missed too much. We were maybe too scared to assure like in the first half."
