GAME REPORT

Slovenia Coast To A First Win

7. Rebeka Abramovic (Slovenia)
Rebeka Abramovic had a team-high 11 points, as all Slovenian players put their names on the scoreboard

Slovenia grabbed a much-needed first success in Group A of the EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round after strolling to a 75-35 win against visiting Luxembourg.

Having blazed into a commanding 20-11 lead, the Slovenians made sure there was absolutely no chance of sliding on a banana skin with an even more one-sided second quarter.

The home team threw a suffocating defensive blanket over their opponents and held Luxembourg to just four points, as they stormed into a 40-15 advantage heading to the locker rooms at the break.

They finished the half with a blaze of triples during eleven unanswered points, as Maja Erkic, Nika Baric and Eva Rupnik all rained down three-pointers.

While Luxembourg managed to pick up their offence when they returned to the hardwood, they still found it difficult to match their rivals and continued falling further behind.

That was despite the best efforts of Michele Orban, who had an efficient eight points and eight rebounds.

Rebeka Abramovic led Slovenia with 11 points and five assists.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Slovenia vs. Luxembourg

Tomo Oresnik, Slovenia Head Coach
"I think that we deserve this win. After a bad start we dominated on the court. This win is important for us, but we're already waiting for the games against Slovakia and Poland, which will be even more important."

Rebeka Abramovic, Slovenia
"We knew that we needed this win. Our team was well prepared for Luxembourg. This win is very important. Now we are waiting for two really tough games against Slovakia and Poland. I think that game against Luxembourg was a good preparation for them."

Hermann Paar, Luxembourg Head Coach
"Congratulations to Slovenia. They are the more experienced team. We did not find a starting point to play the game like we wanted. It was very difficult for us. Our team was not in the gym. We still need to work on our weaknesses. We have some strengths, but we did not show them on court."

Cathy Schmit, Luxembourg
"We thought that if we had a chance in 2nd Qualification Round that it would be against Slovenia. The start of the game was okay, but then we played very bad on both sides of the court. We played disappointingly. Slovenia has a great game."
