GAME REPORT

Slovak Start Too Much For Poland

13. Anna Jurcenkova (Slovak Republic)

Slovak Republic started strong and never looked back as they beat Poland 71-55 in Kosice on Wednesday to replace their opponents at the top of Group A in the EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round.

Both sides will head to next summer's competition in Hungary and Romania but it is Slovak Republic who depart as group winners.

The hosts capped a 14-1 start when Zuzana Zirková followed up two made free throws with a big three-pointer.

Poland tried to fight back, Paulina Pawlak driving them forward with nine points. But they could never chip away at Slovak Republic's lead.

The hosts were too strong in too many areas and when Kristi Toliver got out on the fastbreak in the second quarter, it proved the catalyst for an 11-0 run which gave Slovak Republic complete control.

Slovak Republic's Anna Jurcenkova led all scorers with 19 points while Martyna Koc was the high player for Poland with 10.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Slovakia vs. Poland

Jacek Winnicki, Poland Head Coach
"It was a very good match from the home team's point of view. We missed Ewelina Kobryn, very important part of our team, which sprained her ankle one day before this game. We started very, very bad and we could not find solutions to our problems until the end of match."

Maroš Kováčik, Slovakia Head Coach
"I am very happy and satisfied. We played a great game, we made a great job in defence. The whole team played clever and we demonstrated an outstanding collective performance. Today's victory; our top place in the qualifying group and a spot at Eurobasket 2015 - these are the results of our great team chemistry."

Magdalena Zietara, Poland
"It was our worst game in this qualification. In the beginning we lost our concentration and Slovakia seized their chance. They led by 15 points after 5 minutes and for us it was very hard to come back to the game."

Kristi Toliver, Slovakia
"We were very aggressive, we played hard and physicaly from the beginning. We did not give our opponent a chance of thinking about success in this match. It was a very important game for us, we got a great support from our fans and that was one of the key factor for our win."
